SUPPORT On YOUR JOURNEY

Finding Help Along the Way

As northern Ohio writers we are fortunate to have  local, regional, and national organizations working to provide financial support to our literary artists.     The links below provide information on funding opportunities that you'll want to learn about on your journey.

If publication is your goal, review the tools and markets to familiarize yourself with the literary magazines publishing quality work.

Funding Opportunities

Community Partnership for Arts & Culture
This nonprofit service, research and advocacy organization for arts and culture in greater Cleveland administers the Creative Workforce Fellowship, a $15,000 award for artists.  Funds help artists develop professionally, and encourage the artist’s engagement with the community.   Check the CPAC website for upcoming deadlines, or sign up for their e-mail newsletter.  This funding program is made possible by the generous support of Cuyahoga County residents through a grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

Ohio Arts Council
The Ohio Arts Council offers Individual Excellence Awards which provide $5,000 grants to assist in a writer’s growth and development.  Application deadlines for fiction, nonfiction, playwriting/screenplays, and poetry are made available in odd-numbered years.  The next deadline date is September 1, 2017.  Grants are also offered to non-profits for operating and project support.

Contests, Grants & Awards
Writers can take advantage of a remarkable number of grants, writing contests, and awards available throughout the country, but scams abound!  The most reliable and trusted resource for legitimate markets and contests is Poets & Writers Magazine.  Their database is easy to use, and sorts upcoming opportunities by date, genre, and range of entry fee.

My Mission

My work as a poet and my passion for teaching helps me to share the power of the arts and the value of living a creative life. I hope to show others how involvement in the arts can enrich our lives, and provide a meaningful underpinning to a life of growth and imagination.

Thank you!
